Saint Lucia launches water security and school infrastructure projects

Saint Lucia is launching major initiatives to address water security and infrastructure needs. A new project is being finalized to support at least 20 schools in the country’s most water-stressed areas. This initiative, developed by the Department of Sustainable Development and the Department of Education, aims to provide at least five days of water supply to schools through the installation of water tanks and solar-powered pumps.

Simultaneously, the Northern Water Project is set to receive an investment of over $22 million. Funded primarily by the Caribbean Development Bank, the project includes the John Compton Dam Raw Water Pipeline Replacement Project. This work involves replacing five kilometers of damaged pipelines to ensure a reliable supply for households, businesses, farmers, and essential services like healthcare and airport terminals. The John Compton Dam currently provides approximately 50% of the island’s potable water.
