Saint Magdalena of Mălainița canonized by Romanian Orthodox Church

The Romanian Orthodox Church has proclaimed the canonization of Saint Magdalena of Mălainița. The synodal tomos was read by Bishop Ieronim of the Dacia Felix Diocese on September 13, 2025, at the Mălainița Monastery in the Timok Valley, Serbia.

Born Magdalena (Măndălina) in 1895 in the village of Šćubic, the saint had Serbian and Romanian heritage. Following the death of her husband during World War I, she became a significant figure of devotion.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan issued a message through Eugen Tomac, honoring the saint as a symbol of devotion and steadfastness. Dan emphasized that the event holds deep significance for Romanians in the Timok Valley, serving as a catalyst for cohesion, faith, and the preservation of national identity, language, and culture outside Romania's borders.
