Orthodox Church commemorates Saints Mamant and Antim

The Orthodox Church and its believers are observing the feast days of Saint Mamant and Saint Antim.

Saint Mamant, a 3rd-century martyr, is traditionally revered as a protector of homes, shepherds, and animals. Folk traditions associated with his day emphasize showing mercy to animals, avoiding harsh treatment of livestock, and seeking peace within the household. Historical accounts describe him as a youth who lived in harmony with nature and remained steadfast in his faith despite persecution.

Saint Antim, a bishop from Nicomedia, is also commemorated. He lived during the intense Christian persecutions under Emperors Diocletian and Maximian. Known for his virtues and kindness, Antim is remembered for his refusal to hide from authorities to protect his flock, eventually facing martyrdom by execution. His life is cited as an example of spiritual strength and integrity in the face of adversity.
