Saint Martyr Priest Alexandru of Basarabia honored in Călărași

The community at the St. Hierarch Nicholas Church in Călărași held a special liturgy to honor Saint Martyr Priest Alexandru of Basarabia. This event marked the first local celebration of the saint following his local canonization in August 2025.

Alexandru Baltaga served the Călărași community for nearly 50 years before his arrest and martyrdom. Beyond his religious service, he was a significant historical figure who served as a deputy in Sfatul Țării between 1917 and 1918, where he voted for the union of Basarabia with Romania.

The celebration included clergy from the Archdiocese of Chișinău and the Archdiocese of Iași, local authorities, and members of the Saint's family.
