France reports fatal stabbing, police collision, and rail disruptions
Several violent incidents and transport disruptions have been reported across France. In Rennes, a 22-year-old man is in critical condition after colliding with a CRS police van while riding an electric scooter. Investigators state the man had been following the vehicle and shouting insults at the officers before the collision occurred during a maneuver to turn around.
In Montpellier, a 16-year-old boy died after being stabbed twice in the chest during a brawl between two groups of youths in the Port-Marianne district. Three individuals have been taken into custody, including a 17-year-old who identified himself as the attacker. Authorities are still searching for other participants in the fight.
Rail services have faced significant interruptions. In Maine-et-Loire, a fatal person-on-track accident near Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire halted traffic between Angers and Saumur, affecting regional and national lines including Ouigo services. Additionally, the Tours to Chinon line is scheduled for a long-term closure starting September 14, 2026, for infrastructure regeneration works.
In Sainte-Colombe, a single-vehicle accident involving five young people resulted in two serious injuries requiring helicopter transport to a hospital in Besançon.
