Saint Myron commemorated as a Christian martyr
Orthodox Christians commemorate the feast of Saint Myron, a priest and martyr who lived in Achaia during the reign of Emperor Decius in the mid-3rd century. Born to a prominent and wealthy family in the Corinth region, Myron became a priest known for his kindness and devotion.
According to religious accounts, the local Roman official Antipater led a raid on a church during a Nativity celebration to arrest Christians and force them to sacrifice to pagan gods. Myron confronted the soldiers, describing them as acting like ‘predatory wolves’ during a peaceful service. Following his arrest, he was subjected to severe torture, including being flayed and placed in a furnace.
After being transferred to the city of Cyzicus in Mysia, Myron refused to renounce his faith. He was ultimately executed by the sword in the year 250.
