Saint Nicholas Services Held in Kerinitis and Messinia Celebrate Local Heritage

On Saturday 9 May 2026, a divine liturgy was celebrated at the small Saint Nicholas church near the historic Monastery of Kerinitis in Arcadia. The ceremony, attended by local brides, highlighted the church’s location on the ruins of the former Metropolitan Church of Kerinitis and emphasized the continuity of religious and cultural memory in the region.

The same day, the municipality of Messinia hosted an annual memorial for benefactor Nikolaos Chiotis at the Saint Nicholas church in Bovei, the town’s namesake beach. Mayor Giorgos Athanasopoulos praised Chiotis’s donation of his estate to the city and its impact on social welfare, noting the establishment of a community centre and a raffle of local goods to boost the town’s economy.
