Saint Petersburg metro stations to be converted into bunkers

Nine metro stations in Saint Petersburg are being prepared to serve as bunkers to provide civil defense against potential air attacks. According to tender documents reported by the local newspaper Fontanka, the modernization will focus on technical solutions to mitigate risks from contaminated air.

The project requires feasibility studies to ensure ventilation systems can effectively filter out radioactive dust, aerosols, and toxic substances. This infrastructure upgrade follows recent drone attacks in the Saint Petersburg region, which targeted Wildberries logistics centers and the Ust-Luga commercial port, and caused several temporary suspensions of operations at Pulkovo Airport.
