Saint Pimen the Great commemorated by Orthodox Church

The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast day of Saint Pimen the Great, a prominent desert father and ascetic from Egypt known for his wisdom and influence on early Christian monasticism. Historical traditions note that Pimen sought spiritual knowledge from renowned elders before becoming a monk himself, eventually leading his brothers into monastic life.

His teachings emphasized humility, silence, and responding to evil with goodness. He is remembered for his ability to guide others toward self-reflection rather than judgment. In addition to Saint Pimen, the religious calendar for this day also commemorates Saint Fanurije, a martyr widely venerated in traditions including those on Rhodes and Crete, as well as Saint Osios, Bishop of Cordup.
