Saint Pimen the Great commemorated by the Church

The Church commemorates Saint Pimen the Great on August 27. Born in Egypt around 340 AD, Pimen was a prominent figure in early Christian monasticism, living alongside contemporaries such as Paisius the Great.

Known for his extreme asceticism and devotion, Pimen sought solitude in the desert with his brothers. His commitment to humility was so profound that he avoided meetings with high-ranking secular officials to prevent the risk of pride and to protect his solitude from being disrupted by the crowds that might follow them.

Pimen served as a spiritual mentor to many, offering wisdom based on the teachings of Jesus Christ regarding humility, kindness, and love. His recorded teachings emphasize remaining unmoved by both insults and praise, and responding to malice with goodness to overcome evil.
