Saint Prophet Micah II feast day observed
Today marks the feast day of the Holy Prophet Micah II. Originating from the village of Moris in the tribe of Judah, Micah was a contemporary of prophets Isaiah, Amos, and Hosea, as well as Judean kings Joash, Ahaz, and Hezekiah.
Micah is noted for condemning the vices of his people and false prophets, specifically predicting the downfall of Samaria and Jerusalem due to corruption, bribery among leaders, and the commercialization of priesthood. His most significant prophecy concerns the Messiah, identifying Bethlehem as the birthplace of the one whose existence is from eternity.
While the exact circumstances of his death remain unknown, tradition holds that his relics were discovered alongside those of the Prophet Habakkuk during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great, following a revelation received by Zevin, the Bishop of Eleutheropolis.
