Saint Sofian Boghiu of Antim Monastery honored for spiritual legacy

The life and spiritual legacy of Saint Sofian Boghiu (1912–2002) of Antim Monastery are highlighted as a synthesis of theology, art, and pastoral devotion. Canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church, he is recognized for his witness during the communist persecution in Romania.

Boghu was a key figure in the 'Rugul Aprins' (Burning Bush) movement at Antim Monastery, a spiritual school focused on the tradition of hesychasm and the prayer of the heart. The movement faced significant repression from the communist regime, which sought to control individuals through the arrest and condemnation of those practicing free prayer.

Sculptor Silvia Radu, who served as his spiritual daughter for 20 years, describes his life as a model of humility and grace. Her reflections on his influence and the intersection of spirituality and culture are featured in the film 'Limanul'.
