Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze mayor fines truck drivers for traffic violations
Sylvette Condis, the mayor of Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze near Toulouse, France, has begun personally photographing the license plates of heavy goods vehicles to enforce local transit bans. Approximately 350 trucks pass through the village of 2,000 residents daily, often attempting to bypass traffic congestion and toll fees by ignoring existing restrictions.
The municipality enforces road closures for heavy vehicles during specific windows: 7:00 to 10:00, 11:30 to 14:00, and 16:00 to 19:00. Residents report significant issues including noise pollution and physical damage to property, such as scraped facades, damaged gutters, and severed wiring caused by oversized vehicles.
In response to the situation, locals formed the “Stop Poids Lourds” initiative to protest the heavy traffic. Mayor Condis stated that her method of sending photographic evidence to authorities for issuing fines is working to curb the violations.
