Saint Theodosius the New Honored on August 7

Saint Theodosius the New, born in Athens in 862 AD to devout Christian parents, entered monastic life and distributed his wealth to the needy. He settled near Argos, where he built a temple dedicated to the Holy Prophet and attracted many seekers.

Clerics accused him of sorcery and reported him to the Archbishop of Argos, Saint Peter. While Saint Peter was in Constantinople, Theodosius appeared in the archbishop’s dream, receiving the patriarch’s blessing and confirming his sanctity. The saint later demonstrated a miracle by holding a burning censer without injury, convincing the archbishop of his holiness. He died in old age, reputed for his virtues and prophetic insight, and his funeral was widely attended.

The commemoration of Saint Theodosius the New is observed on 7 August in the Greek Orthodox tradition.
