Saint Vincent and the Grenadines endorses Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett for UN Secretary-General

Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has announced his country’s support for Guyana’s Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett to become the next United Nations Secretary-General. Speaking at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Dr. Friday emphasized that after eight decades of male leadership, the organization should appoint its first woman to the position.

Rodrigues-Birkett, described by Dr. Friday as a “distinguished diplomat” and an advocate for small states, joins other CARICOM member states in endorsing her candidacy. The Prime Minister also called for reforms to the UN selection process to ensure it is more open, inclusive, and representative of the global community.
