Saints Crisanto and Daria commemorated by the Church

The Church observes the feast of Saints Crisanto and Daria on October 25, honoring the 3rd-century Christian martyrs. According to hagiographic tradition, Crisanto, a young man from a noble family who traveled to Rome to study philosophy, converted to Christianity. His conversion influenced Daria, who subsequently embraced the faith as well.

Tradition states the pair was arrested by the tribune Claudio and eventually sentenced to be buried alive around 283 AD. Their martyrdom and the reported miracles associated with them led to the conversion of Claudio and his family.

Historically, the martyrs were buried along the Via Salaria in Rome. Their cult gained significant prominence in Northern Italy during the Middle Ages, leading to the translation of their relics to Reggio Emilia in the 10th century, where they remain the patron saints of the city and diocese.
