Sairé festival begins with Busca dos Mastros ritual in Alter do Chão

The Sairé festival in Alter do Chão, Pará, commenced with the traditional 'Busca dos Mastros' (Search for the Masts) ritual. This event blends Catholic faith with the ancestral spirituality of the Borari people, celebrating the connection between the community, the forest, and the Tapajós River.

Participants gathered at the festival's headquarters for prayers and a communal meal before proceeding to the riverbank. Led by the Sairé Court and carrying symbols of the Holy Trinity, the group traveled by decorated canoes and boats across the Tapajós River to reach the location of the ceremonial masts. The procession featured traditional music from the 'folionas' group and the distribution of 'tarubá', an indigenous beverage.

In addition to the spiritual and cultural rites, the event included environmental actions, such as the planting of 50 tree seedlings, highlighting the community's commitment to preserving their territory.
