Saitama Derby returns as RB Omiya faces Urawa Reds in Emperor's Cup

RB Omiya Ardija and Urawa Reds are set to face each other in the third round of the Emperor's Cup on October 7, marking the first official Saitama Derby in nine years. The match, held at NACK5 Stadium Omiya, has already seen tickets sell out.

Omiya manager Narcís Pèlach Nadal expressed his ambition to secure an upset against the J1 side, noting that smaller clubs can occasionally defeat larger ones. He emphasized his commitment to the city of Omiya and his desire to showcase a high-intensity playing style as the club operates under the Red Bull global network.

Urawa Reds manager Cho Gue-rae highlighted the intensity of the upcoming fixture, comparing the expected atmosphere to a match in Germany. He stressed the importance of maintaining control and not being swept up by Omiya's current momentum, as the club enters a demanding period of up to eight consecutive matches.
