Saitama Prefecture reports improvements in student academic performance

The Saitama Prefectural Board of Education has released the results of the 2026 academic achievement and learning status survey. The data indicates that academic growth was observed across most grade levels and subjects as students progressed through school.

Notably, the stagnation in academic performance among middle-tier students, which had been observed since the 2023 fiscal year, is showing signs of improvement. The survey, conducted in May 2026, included elementary and junior high school students from 62 municipalities within the prefecture, covering subjects such as Japanese, mathematics, and English.

Analysis suggests that specific factors correlate with academic growth across different tiers. For lower-performing groups, effort regulation strategies—such as persistence when facing difficulties—showed a strong connection to improvement. For middle and upper-tier groups, self-efficacy was a significant factor. Cognitive strategies and proactive learning were found to be strongly linked to growth across all academic levels.
