Sajith Premadasa calls for review of prison attire rules for clergy
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has requested an urgent meeting of the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on Governance, Justice and Civil Protection. The request seeks a review of Department of Prisons Standing Order No. 550, which governs the attire of Buddhist monks and other religious clergy while in custody or being moved outside prison premises. Premadasa noted that the current implementation has caused public distress and urged the Legislature to recommend necessary amendments.
Separately, SriLankan Airlines has cancelled flights between Colombo and Dammam, Saudi Arabia, for October 12 and 13. The cancellations follow an attack reported on October 11. The airline has also previously cancelled flights to Riyadh until next week, with further updates regarding Saudi Arabian operations expected soon.
