Sakam da rabotam defends legal gambling sector in North Macedonia

The association of employees in the gambling sector, ‘Sakam da rabotam’, has issued a response to HERA Mladi regarding the use of ESPAD 2024 research data. The association argues that using International Youth Day to campaign against legal gambling is unfounded and constitutes an attempt to smear the industry.

While acknowledging concerns regarding minors participating in gambling, the association questions whether such activity occurs via online platforms or physical locations, noting that legal casinos and slot clubs strictly enforce age restrictions. They argue that the research lacks a comprehensive scope, failing to account for minors' exposure to alcohol and nicotine in environments like cafes near schools.

Furthermore, the association warns that calls to shut down legal gambling establishments could lead to the rise of unregulated, illegal underground gambling, which would lack state oversight and pose a greater threat to youth. They have offered to host NGO representatives and media members for site visits to verify compliance with legal age requirements.
