Sakarya: 13-year-old seasonal worker Yusuf Kesen dies after tractor accident

Yusuf Kesen, a 13-year-old seasonal agricultural worker, has died following an accident in Sakarya, Turkey. Kesen had traveled from the Kızıltepe district of Mardin with his family to participate in the hazelnut harvest.

The incident occurred on August 20, when Kesen lost his balance while riding on a moving tractor and fell onto the road, where he was subsequently struck by another motor vehicle. After spending 12 days in intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries. His remains are being transported to his hometown in Mardin for burial.

The Labor Health and Safety (İSİG) Assembly reported that Kesen’s death brings the number of identified child laborer fatalities to 58 this year. A judicial investigation into the incident is ongoing.
