Turkey expects record 140 million ton agricultural production
Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, announced that the country is expected to close the harvest season with a record-breaking production of 140 million tons. Speaking during a wheat harvest ceremony in Karabük, Yumaklı noted that approximately 93 percent of the barley and wheat harvest across the nation has already been completed.
The Minister attributed the high yields to the most favorable rainfall levels seen in the last 66 years, which helped mitigate the effects of previous droughts. To support producers, the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) increased its purchasing points from 600 to 769 and has already procured 11.5 million tons of product.
Yumaklı also emphasized ongoing efforts to combat climate change through seed development and improved production methods. Additionally, he issued a warning to farmers against burning stubble, citing the risk of forest fires and damage to soil health.
