Sakarya Municipality expands social and environmental initiatives
Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality is advancing several community-focused projects aimed at social development and environmental education. Under the LAP BLACK Project, part of the EU Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program, approximately 100 students participated in activities designed to foster environmental awareness. The program included visits to the Sustainable Climate Park to learn about eco-friendly technologies—such as solar-powered benches and air quality monitors—as well as STEM-based workshops and a cleanup initiative at Lake Sapanca.
Additionally, the municipality has completed construction on the Karapürçek Social Development Center (SGM), the sixth of its kind in Sakarya. Spanning 1,300 square meters, the facility includes a 120-person seminar hall, five classrooms, workshops, a cafeteria, and a nursery. The center is designed to support the personal development of children, youth, and individuals with disabilities while providing social support for families.
