Sakarya resident disputes 50,000 TL tax debt over vehicle misclassification

Alaattin Erdoğan, a resident of the Karasu district in Sakarya, is seeking assistance following a significant tax discrepancy involving a vehicle he owned years ago. In 2008, Erdoğan purchased a SsangYong Actyon Sports, which was registered as a pickup truck (kamyonet) on the police-issued registration document. He sold the vehicle in 2011 after ensuring all taxes were paid and obtaining a ‘no debt’ certificate.

However, when Erdoğan visited the Sakarya Gümrükönü Tax Office in 2012 for tax restructuring, he discovered that the vehicle was recorded in the tax authority's system as a panel van (panelvan) rather than a pickup truck. This classification difference resulted in an initial tax discrepancy of 5,000 TL. Due to accumulated interest over the years, the debt has reportedly risen to 50,000 TL. Erdoğan has contested the charge, stating the error was not his fault and is requesting a resolution from the authorities.
