Sakarya Training and Research Hospital saves Kyrgyz boy's leg from amputation

Baiaman Ularbekov, a 12-year-old boy from Kyrgyzstan, has successfully avoided leg amputation following treatment for osteosarcoma at Sakarya Training and Research Hospital (SEAH) in Turkey.

After experiencing pain and swelling below his right knee, Ularbekov was diagnosed with a malignant bone tumor. His family sought specialized care in Turkey, where he underwent approximately 10 weeks of chemotherapy. Following the chemotherapy, surgeons successfully removed the tumorous tissue and implanted a special prosthesis, allowing the patient to avoid amputation.

Associate Professor Fevzi Sağlam, an orthopedics and traumatology specialist at SEAH, noted that the hospital has been conducting specialized research into bone and soft tissue tumors for six years. Ularbekov is expected to continue chemotherapy and physical therapy for approximately one year as he recovers.
