Sakarya woman accuses daughters and sons-in-law of theft

Melek Bayraktar, a 59-year-old resident of the Erenler district in Sakarya, has accused her three daughters and two sons-in-law of stealing her savings, gold, and household goods. Bayraktar claims the total loss is approximately 700,000 to 800,000 Turkish Lira.

Following the death of her husband in a traffic accident in 2024, Bayraktar had been accumulating funds to cover home repairs and personal needs. She alleges that her daughters and sons-in-law used her bank cards without permission and stole items including four sacks of hazelnuts, 1.5 tins of chestnut honey, and various amounts of cash and gold.

Bayraktar initiated legal action through the gendarmerie and the judiciary, specifically filing a complaint against her daughter, E., for theft through the use of information systems. However, authorities determined that because the suspect is a first-degree relative, the case fell under personal immunity from punishment, resulting in a decision not to proceed with a prosecution.
