Sakie Yokota advocates for daughter abducted to North Korea

Sakie Yokota, the 90-year-old mother of Megumi Yokota, continues her advocacy for the return of her daughter, who was abducted to North Korea in 1977 at the age of 13. As Megumi approaches her 62nd birthday this Monday, Sakie expressed her ongoing hope for a reunion, noting that there has been no information regarding her daughter’s whereabouts for nearly 50 years.

In Niigata, Megumi’s former classmates recently held the 16th charity concert to support the homecoming of abduction victims. During the event, Megumi’s brother, Tetsuya Yokota, expressed his trust in the current government to produce results regarding the issue. Sakie Yokota emphasized that it is the government’s duty to rescue abducted Japanese citizens and called for an early resolution to the long-standing abduction crisis.
