Saku Chosei High School kendo team reaches Inter-High top 16

The women’s kendo team from Saku Chosei High School achieved a top-16 finish at the National High School Athletic Championships (Inter-High) held in Nara. The team, which includes Matsukawa Town natives Fuka Iwasaki and Kotomi Matsuzawa, advanced to the final tournament for the first time in the school’s history after winning their qualifying league group.

Iwasaki, the team captain, led the squad through the tournament, which saw the team avenge last year’s preliminary round exit. Following their performance, the athletes visited the Matsukawa Town Mayor to report their success. Both Iwasaki and Matsuzawa are designated as strengthened athletes by the prefectural kendo federation in preparation for the 2028 National Sports Festival.
