Sakumono police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of couple
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of a couple at the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra. The arrest follows a manhunt launched after the deaths of George Atuguba, 57, and Irene Atuguba, 47, who were found with gunshot wounds at their residence on October 30, 2026.
Preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have been motivated by a financial dispute. Police report that George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect, with an expected repayment including GH¢100,000 in interest, but had defaulted on the loan.
On the morning of the incident, the suspect reportedly arrived at the victims' home accompanied by Beatrice Mumuni, 46. A disagreement allegedly occurred in the presence of three children and a domestic worker, during which the suspect is accused of opening fire before fleeing. Mumuni had previously been arrested in connection with the case and was believed to have led the suspect to the residence.
