Saúl Ñíguez discusses limited playing time at Flamengo

Flamengo midfielder Saúl Ñíguez has expressed frustration regarding his limited playing time at the club. After playing only 371 minutes across 13 matches in 2026—equivalent to just over four full games—the Spanish midfielder recently completed a full 90-minute appearance during a 2-1 victory against Bragantino.

Ñíguez attributed his lack of continuity to a serious left heel surgery in January, which sidelined him for approximately three months and hindered his physical preparation. Following his return, he has struggled to secure a consistent place in the lineup under coach Leonardo Jardim.

Regarding his future, the 31-year-old stated that while he intends to stay with Flamengo for the remainder of the current season, he will evaluate his situation at the end of the year. He noted that if he does not receive sufficient opportunities to contribute to the team, he may seek opportunities elsewhere, stating, “If I have a good opportunity and I am not playing... then I will go away.”
