SAL Heavy Lift christens MV Patricia project cargo vessel

SAL Heavy Lift has officially christened the MV Patricia, the third vessel in its Orca-class program designed for heavy-lift and project cargo. The ship is specialized for the offshore wind and renewable energy sectors.

The MV Patricia features a hybrid dual-fuel propulsion system capable of using methanol, integrated with battery storage to reduce emissions. It also includes a shore power connection to allow for emission-free operations while in port. The vessel is equipped with two fully electric Liebherr LS 800 E cranes, each with an 800-ton lifting capacity, capable of handling combined loads of up to 1,600 tons.

The German Ministry of Transport provided approximately 3.2 million euros in subsidies for the ship’s innovative propulsion system through the NaMKü program, which supports the sustainable modernization of coastal vessels. On its maiden voyage, the MV Patricia will transport wind energy equipment for Vestas, traveling from Phu My and Lvsi to Eemshaven and Raahe.
