Salé International Women’s Film Festival opens 19th edition

The 19th edition of the Salé International Women’s Film Festival is currently underway in Morocco, running from September 28 through October 3. Organized by the Association Bouregreg and held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, the event focuses on the role of women as filmmakers, actors, screenwriters, and producers.

The festival features a diverse program including feature films, documentaries, masterclasses, and discussions aimed at exploring women’s representation in culture and society. It also includes a dedicated section for young audiences to encourage engagement with cinema among new generations.

This year’s edition includes tributes to several prominent figures in the arts, such as actresses Meryem Zaïmi, Ibtissam Laaroussi, and Amal Ayouch, as well as director Mohamed Abderrahman Tazi and Quebecois filmmaker Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette. The program also honors the legacy of the late Moroccan sociologist and writer Fatima Mernissi.
