Salé Women's International Film Festival to honor Fatema Mernissi

The 19th edition of the Salé Women's International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 28 to October 3, 2026. Organized by the Association Bouregreg, this edition will pay tribute to the intellectual legacy of the late Moroccan sociologist and writer Fatema Mernissi.

Quebec cinema will serve as the guest of honor, featuring four films including works by Jennifer Alleyn, Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, André Kadi, and Halima Elkhatabi. The festival also introduces a new segment, ‘La femme… dans leur regard’, which examines the representation of women through the lens of male directors.

The program includes various competitions for feature fiction and documentaries, as well as dedicated sections for Moroccan cinema and young audiences. Notable figures such as Mohammed Abderrahman Tazi, Amal Ayouch, and Meryem Zaïmi will be honored, alongside a posthumous tribute to Aïcha Benkhedra.
