Salacas Mauciens night rowing event returns to Latvia's Salaca River

The "Salacas Mauciens" night rowing event, a Latvian tradition spanning over 20 years, is scheduled to take place during the night of August 21–22. Participants will navigate the Salaca River in a challenge designed to test endurance and teamwork.

There are two distance options available this year. The long distance covers approximately 100 kilometers from Vecates to the Staicele area, intended for experienced paddlers using kayaks, canoes, or SUP boards. The short distance covers approximately 45 kilometers, starting from a dam in Staicele.

As part of the festivities, the "Lukturīšu brauciens" will be held on August 21. Supporters are encouraged to join a procession from the "Būda" cafe to Skaņamkalns to welcome the marathon participants with lights and music. The event also features a musical performance by Estonian musician Kalle Tikas and is part of the Estonian Day celebrations in Valmiera Municipality.
