Salado River Basin Committee meets to coordinate water management

Representatives from over 20 districts in the Buenos Aires province met in Roque Pérez for a meeting of the Salado River Basin Committee. The summit, involving subregions B1, B2, and B3, focused on coordinating strategies to manage the region's water situation, specifically regarding the anticipated effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

Authorities, including Damián Costamagna, president of the Water Authority (ADA), reviewed reports on the current state of the basin and groundwater behavior. These measurements are intended to help anticipate and mitigate meteorological impacts in this historically vulnerable area.

A major point of discussion was the proliferation of unauthorized hydraulic works, such as clandestine channels. Officials introduced the Hydraulic Works Regularization Program for Municipalities to address these irregular structures and improve water runoff management. The meeting concluded with a consensus on the need for increased intergovernmental cooperation and constant information sharing to strengthen preventive measures.
