Salado River Basin Committee meets to prepare for El Niño

The Salado River Basin Committee (Subregion A1) met in General Arenales to coordinate responses to the anticipated El Niño phenomenon. The meeting brought together representatives from eight municipalities, specialists from the Water Authority (ADA), and the Provincial Directorate of Hydraulics to analyze potential climate and hydrological scenarios.

The participating municipalities—General Arenales, Junín, Lincoln, General Villegas, Leandro N. Alem, Florentino Ameghino, General Pinto, and General Viamonte—share a single hydrological system. This interconnectedness means that decisions made in one area of the basin can impact other localities and productive zones.

Provincial Senator Pablo Petrecca emphasized that prevention requires joint planning and coordination between provincial agencies and municipal governments. The primary goal of the meeting was to identify measures to mitigate risks from increased rainfall, specifically focusing on protecting towns, rural roads, and agricultural areas.
