Romanian police seize illegal timber and assets in forest crackdown
In late July, police in Brașov County carried out ten home searches targeting a criminal case on forest offences. The raids resulted in the detention of three forest‑workers aged 32‑41, the seizure of various types of timber and motor‑saws, and the questioning of 14 people.
Separately, the Sălaj County police reported a large‑scale operation that recovered about 8 million lei in damages, confiscated more than 1 000 m³ of illegal wood, seized seven vehicles, and imposed fines totaling over 563 000 lei. The action uncovered 243 offences, including illegal logging, fraud and abuse of office.
In the Apuseni Natural Park, the park administration together with local gendarmerie conducted a joint inspection that led to the confiscation of roughly 220 kg of illegally harvested blueberries and the issuance of fines worth 2 000 lei for contraventions of forest‑protection regulations.
