Salamanca firefighters face 16 months of unpaid wages and resource shortages

Labor unions UGT and CCOO have denounced a critical situation regarding the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPEIS) of the Diputación de Salamanca. The unions report that professional firefighters have not been paid for on-call duties, overtime, Sundays, or holidays for 16 months, with debts dating back to June 2025.

In addition to the unpaid wages, the unions highlighted a lack of personnel and material resources across the four professional stations in Villares de la Reina, Ciudad Rodrigo, Béjar, and Vitigudino. They specifically noted that while professional stations lack necessary emergency vehicles, some provincial vehicles are being used by municipalities for volunteer staff or other purposes.

The unions are demanding immediate payment of all outstanding wages, the reorganization and return of necessary provincial vehicles to the professional stations, and the provision of sufficient staff and equipment to ensure public safety.
