Salamanca leads fighting bull breeding as association marks 75 years
The Association of Fighting Bull Breeders (Asociación de Ganaderías de Lidia) is celebrating its 75th anniversary, with the province of Salamanca emerging as a key leader in the sector. The association currently includes over 350 farms across Spain, France, and Portugal, focusing on the conservation of the breed's genetic, natural, and cultural heritage.
During the commemorative events, Joaquín Antonio Pino, the Counselor for Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Affairs, and Environmental Policy, recognized the work of breeders in animal selection and facility modernization. He also highlighted the role of extensive farming in generating employment and economic activity in rural areas.
In the Castilla y León region, Salamanca holds a dominant position. Of the 75 farms in the region belonging to the association, 48 are located in Salamanca. The province accounts for approximately 22,678 census animals, representing nearly 80% of the regional census.
