Salamanca School District Deploys Humanoid Robot ‘Sally’ as AI Teaching Assistant

The Salamanca City Central School District in upstate New York will pilot a humanoid robot called Sally in high‑school AI, coding and robotics classes this September. Developed by Realbotix, the $57,000 robot has silicone skin, brown hair, a Western New York accent and can move its arms and hands while seated. It operates on an offline AI platform, uses student ID numbers to retrieve learning histories, and is designed to support—not replace—teachers.

The pilot is part of the Woz Ed STEM Pathway curriculum created by Apple co‑founder Steve Wozniak. District officials emphasized privacy safeguards: the robot will not record video or audio, nor transmit personal data to Realbotix. The program serves a community on Seneca Nation territory where many students are economically disadvantaged. Realbotix, formerly known as Tokens and linked to the Simulcra/RealDoll sex‑doll brand, rebranded into robotics after the 2024 crypto market collapse.
