Salamanca to host Luso-Spanish Congress on extensive livestock farming

The V Luso-Spanish Congress of Extensive Livestock Farming and Rural Development will take place on December 3 and 4 in Salamanca, Spain. Co-organized by ACOS (Associação de Agricultores do Sul) alongside several other entities, the biennial event alternates between Portugal and Spain.

Under the theme ‘Sanidade e Território – Confiança e Futuro’ (Health and Territory – Trust and Future), the congress aims to address the challenges facing extensive livestock farming, including new sanitary, economic, environmental, and territorial requirements. The program features four strategic panels focusing on animal health, plant health, commercialization, and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2028–2034 period.

Organizers expect over 400 participants, including specialists, livestock producers, researchers, and representatives from the European Union and the governments of Portugal and Spain. The event seeks to promote cooperation between the two nations and highlight the environmental, social, and economic benefits of sustainable agro-pastoral systems in rural territories.
