Salamina: Eight hospitalized after chemical exposure at pool facility

Eight people, including three children aged 3, 6, and 8, were hospitalized after being exposed to chemical substances at a children's playground with swimming pools in Salamina, Greece. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon at a facility located on Aiantiou Avenue.

Victims reported symptoms such as shortness of breath, eye irritation, and intense malaise, with two women temporarily losing consciousness. Following initial treatment at the Salamina Health Center, several individuals, including two children and two women, were transferred to Thriasio Hospital. Medical examinations suggest the illness was caused by the inhalation of chemical substances, likely related to an intense chlorine odor.

Police have arrested the 61-year-old manager of the playground and the pool technician. Both face charges of bodily harm through negligence. Authorities are currently investigating the specific chemical products used for pool maintenance and the quantities applied to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
