Salamina wildfire triggers emergency evacuations

A wildfire broke out in the Perani area of Salamina on Sunday afternoon, September 27, affecting low vegetation. The fire prompted a significant response from the Hellenic Fire Service and the activation of the 112 emergency alert system.

Authorities issued an evacuation order via the 112 system, instructing residents in the affected area to move toward Aiantio using Peristeri Avenue. The firefighting operation involves 48 firefighters, four walking teams from the 1st EMODE, 11 vehicles, and one aircraft for aerial support. The Municipality of Salamina is also assisting with water tankers.

The National Coordination Center for Crisis Management is monitoring the situation using drones equipped with thermal and optical cameras. Meanwhile, the Piraeus Arson Crimes Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the blaze.
