Salar Film Festival Debuts in Bolivia's Uyuni Salt Flats

The first edition of the Salar Film Festival (SalarFF) was held from July 30 to August 2, 2026 on the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt desert in Bolivia. The three‑day event featured film screenings, masterclasses and networking sessions, and highlighted the Latin American premiere of Pedro Almodóvar’s new film Amarga Navidad, starring Bárbara Lennie and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Organised by Bolivian filmmaker Rodrigo Bellott and the platform Una Gran Nación, the festival aimed to showcase Bolivia’s tourism and creative potential while providing training on topics such as AI in cinema, financing and co‑production.

As part of the festival, cosmetics and jewelry company Yanbal staged a runway show on the salt flats, unveiling its latest jewelry collections. The presentation linked the region’s striking light and reflections with the brand’s emphasis on authenticity and elegance, reinforcing Yanbal’s commitment to empowering women across Latin America and Europe.
