Lidl and Salati Preziosi recall popcorn over toxic alkaloid levels

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a recall for two specific lots of popcorn due to tropane alkaloids—specifically atropine and scopolamine—exceeding legal limits. These substances can have serious toxic effects in humans and may enter the corn supply via contamination from weeds like Datura during cultivation.

The affected products are:

• Salati Preziosi popcorn: 90g packs, lot L 26269, expiring 16/12/2026 (EAN 8025579240031). • Lidl Italia Snack Day popcorn: 120g packs, lot 26269, expiring 16/12/2026 (EAN 4335619450998).

Both brands are produced by Preziosi Food. Consumers are advised not to consume the products and to return them to the point of sale.
