Salcedo school community poisoned by suspected chemical fumigation

Twenty people, including children, teachers, and support staff from the Liceo María Teresa Brito in the Monte Llano community, have been poisoned. The incident occurred following the suspected chemical fumigation of nearby bean plantations.

Those affected presented symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach and muscle pain, and dizziness. Victims were transported via six ambulances from the National Emergency and Security System (9-1-1) to various medical centers in the Hermanas Mirabal province for treatment.

José Augusto (Tito) Sánchez, president of the Salcedo branch of the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP), has called on the Ministries of Health, Education, and Agriculture to form a commission to identify those responsible. He also urged the establishment of protocols for landowners with plots near educational centers to prevent future incidents.
