Saleng Sangma disputes Maikhuli border conflict claims

Congress MP Saleng Sangma has disputed claims made by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma regarding the nature of the recent border tensions in Maikhuli. While the Chief Minister characterized the unrest as part of a 50-year-old interstate border conflict between Assam and Meghalaya, Sangma argued that the Maikhuli area had remained peaceful for decades.

Sangma noted that while long-standing disputes exist in regions such as Langpih and Blocks I and II, the recent chaos in the Maikhuli-Khanapara-Pillingkata area is distinct. He alleged that recent developments, including the fencing of a village road by a group from Assam, have created unnecessary fear and uncertainty among local communities that previously lived in close, peaceful relations.
