Salento road safety concerns rise after fatal motorcycle accident

A fatal motorcycle accident on Provincial Road 358 near Santa Cesarea Terme in Salento has renewed concerns regarding road safety in the region. On September 27, two motorcyclists from the province of Brindisi, identified as 39-year-old Pierpaolo Delle Grottaglie and 44-year-old Salvatore Antonaci, lost their lives in the crash.

The stretch of road has gained a reputation for frequent accidents, leading local resident Angela Fabrizio to launch a petition for concrete safety interventions. In response to the recent tragedy, the Prefecture and the Province have announced the creation of a task force involving local municipalities to address the issue, though advocates continue to call for more immediate measures to combat high vehicle speeds.
