Salerno approves school upgrades while residents petition to save local facility

The Municipality of Salerno has finalized the contract award for seismic retrofitting and structural redevelopment of the ‘Matteo Mari’ school located in Piazza Trucillo. The multi-million euro project aims to upgrade the facility to modern fire safety and energy efficiency standards. Construction is expected to be complex, with works projected to continue until 2028, requiring the administration and school management to coordinate temporary classroom transfers to minimize disruption for students and families.

In contrast, residents in the upper Torrione district are mobilizing to prevent the potential abandonment of the ‘Carlo Alberto Alemagna’ school. A public petition has been launched by parents and local citizens calling on the municipality and regional institutions to utilize Cohesion Development Fund (FSC) resources for the school’s safety and renovation. The community argues that maintaining this educational facility is essential to prevent local depopulation.
